Foothills Performing Arts announces their 2008 – 2009 season.  Positions for Artistic Director and Technical Directors are available for the following productions.

The Foothills troupe hits the stage in September 2008 with the uproarious, hilarious comedy from England, the “Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society’s Production of Macbeth” (with the longest title ever and the most laughs ever.)  Written by David McGillivray and Walter Zerlin Jnr and published by Samuel French Ltd.  the ladies give you their performance of Macbeth in the Drama Finals. They have missing actors, injured actors, set problems, and they run out of time, but the ladies rise to the occasion in their inimitable style.  Auditions will be held July 21 & 22, 2008.  All auditions will be at 7:00pm in the FPA theatre on the campus of CCC & TI in Hudson, NC.  Parts are available for three men, seven women and one dysfunctional set.

The October fall production is “The Raindrop Waltz,” written by award winning Sylva, NC native storyteller, Mr. Gary Carden.  A wonderful blend of humor and poignancy allows narrator Jody Lee to tell the story of his family’s history which include his father’s murder, his mother’s “bad blood” and his independent grandmother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s in the NC mountains.  Auditions will be September 15 & 16, 2008.  Parts are available for three women, three men and one boy.  A simple exterior set. Published by Trillium Books.

In December 2008 Vic Wilcox and Stephen Starnes will portray some two dozen men and women in a special production of “A Tuna Christmas.” This story is set in Tuna, the third smallest town in Texas and we join the eccentric residents of the town as they prepare for their annual production of A Christmas Carol, and their annual yard decorating contest.  Written by Ed Howard, Joe Sears & Jaston Williams and published by Samuel French.  Auditions will not be held for this production.

In February 2009 there is a strong play for women, “The Memory of Water” written by Shelagh Stephenson and published by Dramatists Play Service, Inc.  Three sisters, with little in common other than unhealthy childhood legacies, reunite to bury their mother.  This is a tragedy and a comedy, as laughter is as much a guest at this funeral as is grief.  The sisters sort their dirty laundry as they sort Mum’s clothes.  One unit interior set.  Four women and two men.  Auditions will be

held on December 15 & 16, 2008.

Our April 2009 spring production will be “Cheaper By the Dozen” based on the book by Frank Gilbreth and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey and dramatized by Christopher Sergel.  Published by Dramatic Publishing.  This wonderful comedy focuses on the father’s need to organize his family and his teenage daughter’s independent need to be treated as an adult.  Their struggle leads to a maturity and mutual respect that give meaning and emotion in this delightful comedy romp!  Auditions are set for February 16 & 17, 2009.  One interior set with nine male and six female various stair step ages and one man & one woman for their parents.

Foothills will wrap up their season in July 2009 with the award winning play “Lost In Yonkers” by Neil Simon and published by Samuel French.  Set in 1942 a dysfunctional family (which includes one stern grandmother, two crazy aunts, one gangster uncle, and the two boys) must learn to live together while the boy’s widowed father goes south to work to retire his debt.  One interior set with parts for three women, two men and two boys.  Auditions are April 27 & 28, 2009.
